Holy unexpected, Batman! Christian Bale was questioned by police in London after his mother and sister alleged the actor assaulted them, reports UK's Daily Telegraph.
Bale, who should be riding high after his new film smashed box office records this weekend, was in custody Tuesday morning after his 61-year-old mother, Jenny, and 40-year-old sister, Sharon, filed police complaints Monday, alleging Bale attacked them at London's Dorchester hotel Sunday night. The actor -- who has not been formally charged with anything -- was released from the Belgravia precinct station Tuesday afternoon and is set to return in September pending further inquiries, a police spokeswoman told People magazine.
Bale denied the allegations in a statement made by his lawyers following his release. The statement reads: "Christian Bale attended a London police station today, on a voluntary basis, in order to assist with an allegation that had been made against him to the police by his mother and sister. Mr. Bale, who denies the allegation, co-operated throughout, gave his account in full of the events in question, and has left the station without any charge being made against him by the police. At this time, there will be no further comment by Mr. Bale."
According to The Sun, authorities made the decision not to question Bale about the complaint until after The Dark Knight's press conference and London premiere on Monday.
"It was a very difficult situation but it would have been wrong to have wrecked the premiere over a complaint which we don’t yet know is founded in truth," a source told the paper.
On the red carpet Monday night, Bale appearing unperturbed by the allegations, instead focusing on the film. He told Us Weekly: "Try putting on a bat suit and not laughing at yourself, it's very tricky. The only way you can manage that is by creating this demonic, angry creature. You cease to become a man, you become a creature."
