Trailer Talk: When In Rome

August 19, 2009

We've been girl-crushing on Kristen Bell ever since she played a wise-cracking, mystery-solving teen sleuth on Veronica Mars. Will Arnett wormed his way into our hearts as Arrested Development's bumbling magician Gob. We've pined for Lee Pace since Pushing Daisies was tragically ripped from our TV screens. And Dax Shepard...well, three out of four ain't bad.

Yet, despite the (almost) perfect cast, the trailer for When in Rome is leaving us cold. The paint-by-numbers rom-com features Bell as an improbably unlucky-in-love New Yorker who travels to Rome for her sister's wedding. Once there, she steals coins from a magical "love fountain' and then finds herself relentlessly pursued by the spell-bound coin owners. But will she be able to ditch them and catch the eye of the hot columnist (Josh Duhamel) she met at the wedding? We'll give you three guesses how this one's going to turn out...

Watch the trailer below and let us know what you think. Does Bell ever do a project that doesn't require a voiceover? Is Pace pissed that he's playing a smarmy ex-boyfriend while Duhamel landed the romantic lead? How in the world did Anjelica Huston and Danny DeVito end up in this mess?
