In two years, weekday afternoons will no longer be filled with Oprah Winfrey showing off her favourite things or berating authors of fake autobiographies, as the queen of daytime TV announced yesterday that she’ll be ending The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2011.

"The last day will be Sept. 9, 2011," a spokesperson for the show told People. "She will speak about it on (Friday's) live show."

Winfrey, 55, is looking to focus on her new cable channel, the Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN), and many have speculated that she will take her talk show to the new network. Execs at CBS TV Distribution are taking Winfrey’s departure with grace.

"We have the greatest respect for Oprah and wish her nothing but the best in her future endeavors," the company said in a statement. "We know that anything she turns her hand to will be a great success. We look forward to working with her for the next several years and hopefully afterwards as well."

Unsurprisingly, Gayle King, completely supported her BFF’s decision.

"This was definitely Oprah's decision, and Oprah's decision alone,” said King, who is editor-at-large for O Magazine. “I have a feeling she will come up with some things to do. She has a very full life. We don't need to worry about her filling her time, I promise you that! Life is good for her."

Some of Winfrey’s famous friends expressed their thoughts on the talk show queen’s decision, with reactions varying from disbelief to gratitude.

"She'll do another show. She's evolving. She's fabulous,” said Martha Stewart.

"I don't think I could be here without her. I think she has blazed a trail,” said Ellen DeGeneres on her own talk show yesterday. "She will always be the queen of daytime television, and she also said she is leaving me all of her money. I was like, ‘Thanks Oprah, thank you.’"

Hey, Ellen, any chance you’d be willing to send a few million our way?
