Adam Lambert is taking a lot of flack for his raunchy American Music Awards performance, which prompted producers at Good Morning America to cancel live concert this morning. Luckily, CBS’ The Early Show quickly snatched Lambert up, and the former American Idol contestant admitted this morning that he may have gone too far at Sunday’s awards show.
"I admit, I did get carried away, but I don't see anything wrong with it," Lambert said of his performance, which included kissing another man and simulating oral sex. "I do see how people got offended and that was not my intention. My intention was just to interpret the lyrics to my song and have a good time up there."
The 27-year-old revealed that the racier parts of his choreography were mostly improvised, which was probably why ABC executives were so put off.
"ABC was taken a little by surprise -- and that wasn't my intention. I wasn't being sneaky,” he said, adding that he “can understand” why parents were upset. “Honestly, it didn't cross my mind. It was almost 11 o'clock. It was a nighttime show. I was there in the audience full of mostly adults."
Still, Lambert thought he was the victim of a double standard, pointing out that Janet Jackson grabbed a male dancer’s crotch during her opening number.
“I didn’t hear one peep about that,” Lambert said. “[If it had been] a female pop performer doing the moves ... I don't think there would have been nearly as much of an outrage.”
Maybe he forgot about Jackson’s infamous Super Bowl halftime show?
