Every time Lady Gaga puts on a cape made out of Muppets, a flame-throwing bra or a couture tampon costume, she's not doing it for the attention, or because it's kind of awesome, or even because she wants to draw attention away from her face. No, she's doing it for the people of the world. Particularly the weird ones.

"I want to create a space for my fans where they can feel free, and they can celebrate," she told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview airing Friday.

"I didn't fit in in high school, and I felt like a freak," Gaga said, adding that back in her high school days, she wanted to be like "Boy George" (which is only unusual considering she's 23).

"So I like to create this atmosphere for my fans where they feel like they have a freak in me to hang out with, and they don't feel alone."

A nice sentiment, but how come she hasn't accepted our invitation to hang out in the food court during third period, yet?

"I want my fans to know that it's OK. Sometimes in life you don't always feel like a winner, but that doesn't mean you're not a winner."
