For anyone waiting on a call-back from DONDA Industries, a suggested revision for that cover letter: if you want Kanye West's attention, try mentioning you're a "flashy" Sheikh.
According to the New York Observer, West's looking to meet a few -- and it's all part of a film project the brasher half of The Throne is reportedly bringing to the Middle East.
Not much is known about the film (one source declined sharing plot details with the Observer "out of respect for Kanye's ambition"). West hasn't revealed whether the would-be follow-up to "Runaway" will be connected to any upcoming album -- or it if promises to be any more than a super zazzed-out animated GIF -- but the Observer reports that production is moving ahead, as Team DONDA is already hanging out in Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Doha, preparing for the shoot, which is scheduled to begin in March.
The Observer states this much, though: whatever West is up to, he's intent on making a film that's an "authentic" portrayal of the life and culture of the area. Of course, the life and culture West has celebrated through his "Hermes of verses" involves fun things like mutated Maybachs. Some of the locals he's hoping to involve would be royalty -- which should be easy-peasy lemon-Weezy, according to the paper's source.
"Many of the Sheikhs like to be flashy and appreciate celebrity notoriety," said the source.
According to the paper, West's interest in keeping things local has spurred a "bidding war" between investors in the region.
“His reps seemed genuinely enthusiastic about creating a piece which highlights the culture accurately,” said the Observer's source. “There’s a lot of preconceived notions and stereotypes about Emiratis and Qataris, which Westerners often play up. They discussed how Kanye is looking to bridge the cultural divide and break misconceptions.”
Still, there's probaly a 90 per cent chance the final product will just be West's long-awaited remake of The Jetsons Movie. Can't wait!
