A 28-year-old man has died after being involved in a brawl at a Valentine’s Day Hedley concert in Dawson Creek, B.C.

Police were called to the Encana Events Centre at about 9:30 p.m. on reports five men were fighting.

"When one of the victims fell to the ground the assault continued until a civilian intervened to break up the fight," said RCMP spokeswoman Const. Lesley Smith.

The victim was found unconscious in the washrooms by event security and paramedics, then rushed to Dawson Creek Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A second victim who suffered non-life-threatening injuries is co-operating with investigators, said Smith.

Three suspects were tracked down at a local drinking establishment and are being held in custody at the Dawson Creek RCMP detachment.

"At this stage we believe the three males had an altercation with the two victims," said Smith.

"The assault continued into the men’s washroom where one of the victims was found seriously injured. He has since succumbed to his injuries."
