Stephenie Meyer Being Sued for Plagiarism

April 23, 2009

What happens when you break it big and make millions? Everyone else that knew you once upon a time wants a deep slice of the money pie, too.

According to semi-reliable sources, a plagiarism lawsuit has been launched against Twilight scribe, Stephenie Meyer, reports U.K. paper, the Sun. In turn – please brace yourselves Robert Pattinson lovers – production on the New Moon flick has been reportedly halted.

A past college roommate, Heidi Stanton, has risen from the woodwork and is claiming that Meyer stole the vampire story concept from a short story she penned in back in college. Stanton filed an idea infringement lawsuit against the Twilight writer last Tuesday, April 14.

We guess the question you all have is why Stanton has waited until, you know, all the books have long been printed and a wickedly-successful Hollywood blockbuster launched. Well, maybe Stanton likes the shade of large rocks—or large stacks of vampire-flavoured money.

Stanton is quoted as saying: “Quite frankly, I was shocked when I began watching the movie with my husband last week. I immediately told him that she got that idea from me! I wrote a fictional short story with the same ideas when we were in college together.”

Meyer, however, has claimed that the vampire romance story came to her in a dream in 2003.

The Twilight sequel, New Moon, is currently being shot in Vancouver and is expected to hit theatres in late 2009.
