New Moon to Ruin Comic-Con for Every Other Geek

July 15, 2009

The San Diego Comic-Con is a place where every geek (and we use that term in the most affectionate way possible, we really do) can let their deep-seated love of everything comic and sci-fi run wild and free. But even the most dedicated of comic book fans are likely to be creeped out by the devotion of Twilight fans next week, as Summit Entertainment has scheduled a New Moon panel that will make sure the entire convention centre is overrun by thousands of screaming Twi-hards, each clamouring for the chance to catch a glimpse of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner. (Sure other cast members will be there as well, but nobody really cares about them, do they?)

Oh, and did we mention that Summit has also scheduled some screenings of the original Twilight? Yeah. HitFix reports that on July 23, the studio has set up "The Twilight Experience" at the Pacific Glasslamp Theater (a few blocks away from the San Diego Convention Center), and the lucky fans who gain admittance will get to watch their favourite (for now) sparkling teen vampire movie along with the cast. And while Summit remains mum on the details, it seems likely that those in attendance will get to watch a few scenes from the upcoming New Moon. You're welcome.

Sadly, even though Twilight is already out on DVD, tickets to the screenings are not free – they're selling for $10 on Fandango.com and fans will be admitted at 5:30 p.m. on the 23rd on a first-come, first-served basis.

So, if you're headed to the San Diego Comic-Con for any reason other than Twilight, well, you'd better become a vampire fan quickly, because we're pretty sure everything else will take a backseat to Robert Pattinson and his painted-on abs.
