For those of you who felt the denouement of Ubisoft’s gorgeous Prince of Persia was more of meh-nding than an ending, you might want to read on. Ubisoft has announced it will release downloadable content for the game on February 26 that will wrap things up all nice and tidy – while creating even more kickass for everyone’s fave Persian prince and sexy sorceress sidekick.
Titled Prince of Persia Epilogue, the DLC will pick up right where the retail game leaves off and promises to add a new power for Elika, a new attack for the Prince, a new location, a new enemy and two unlockable skins available at the end of the content. And for all those haters who say Prince was too easy, the Epilogue will also ratchet up the difficulty of the game.
“This is one of the most ambitious DLC projects from Ubisoft,” Jamal Rguigui, associate producer for the Epilogue DLC, told IGN.com. “And it adds to the understanding of Prince of Persia's new world and characters.”
The DLC is said to develop the growing relationship between the Prince and Elika and to clock in at around three hours, all while introducing the Underground Palace – a new environment that is filled with Corruption and must be saved.
“Corruption in all of its form definitely gets more invasive and adds to the acrobatic experience in the areas,” Rguigui said. “The new area takes place mostly in huge various rooms. It is reminiscent of the [Mines of Moria from Lord of the Rings]. It reflects a really dark ambiance and claustrophobic feelings.”
Elika’s new power – called “Energize” – temporarily reconstructs destroyed parts of the environment and allows you to use them to flee from danger. Meanwhile, the Prince gets a new attack called “Sprinting Clash” – a duel move that lets players trigger a sprint attack. Also, the Prince and Elika will have to face off against a new foe (sort of) called the Shapeshifter – a combination of the retail game villains The Hunter and The Warrior.
While the enemies in Epilogue are said to be “more aggressive,” Ubisoft’s determination to make the game harder is encapsulated in the DLC’s “trap challenge.” The word is that Epilogue takes the traps of Prince and chains them into longer and crazy-difficult combinations.
“What hardcore Prince of Persia gamers want is a challenge and some of them found the game too easy. We understand this,” Rguigui said. “Seeing such feedback, our vision and intentions with the DLC coincided with their comments quite well. We wanted to build a challenge and experience even greater with all the tools at our disposal.”
Also available with Prince of Persia Epilogue are two skins: the prototype designs of the Prince and Elika.
