Spider-Man 4 Gets a Writer. Still No Actors or Director, Though

October 31, 2007

Zodiac screenwriter James Vanderbilt has been tapped to write Spider-Man 4, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Vanderbilt is set to take over the script chores from David Koepp, who wrote 2002’s Spider-Man and had submitted an original draft of the fourth installment.

The Zodiac scribe was chosen over several other script writers for his character-driven style rather than plotting that showcases special effects.

While no details on the story are known, it’s believed that Spider-Man 4 will see a return to the character motivated, scaled-down style of the first two installments.

However, the major storyline of the fourth film may be occurring off screen, as director Sam Raimi and stars Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst haven’t signed on for the film, nor have they indicated whether they are even interested in doing so.
