DC Comics' teen super-team the Teen Titans will be adapted into a full-length feature film by Warner Brothers Pictures, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
We're sure you've been screaming Klingon obscenities at your Mego original Captain America doll (still in the box) in anticipation over which comic book super heroes will next make the almost hourly leap from smudgy print imaginings into giant Hollywood blockbusters--so this news should definitely lift your spirits high enough to make that inevitable disappointment after its release all the more painful.
The film is being produced by Da Vinci Code writer Akiva Goldsman and Dark Water producer Kerry Foster with Battlestar Galactica and Smallville writer Mark Verheiden onboard as screenwriter.
Featured first in 1964, the Teen Titans consisted of Robin, Kid Flash, Aqualad, Wonder Girl and Speedy--the adolescent sidekicks of Batman, Flash, Aquaman, Wonder Woman and Green Arrow repectively.
The team was successfully re-tooled in the 1980s and launched in a new comic that featured the characters as college-aged and dealing with more mature themes. New members Cyborg, Starfire, Raven and Chameleon Boy joined original members Robin (who eventually matured into Nightwing), Wonder Girl and Kid Flash.
The Teen Titans were recently adapted into a popular animated show for the Cartoon Network that ran from 2003-06.
Which of the Titans will appear in the film is uncertain, but Nightwing is reported to be a sure thing.
Goldsman said the tone will be darker and more mature, staying consistent with other recent Warner Brothers’ comic book adaptations Batman Begins, Superman Returns and the forthcoming Watchmen.
