We know most Canadians get Vesuvius-like ulcers from even the faintest thought of becoming American even for a second, but this may change some of your minds. U.S.-based First Look Studios has passed on releasing Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters in Canada, the Toronto Star reports.
The film of the Cartoon Network favorite, which gets its release stateside April 13, will not be released in Canada anytime soon.
According to the Toronto Star, First Look execs are waiting to see how the film does in the U.S. before opening the R-rated cartoon anywhere else.
“We have to see if it does really well in the States,” an anonymous First Look official told the Star. “We're looking at the domestic release.”
The decision to hold the film back has more to do with marketing than anything else. Distribution officials told the Star the movie is being kept out of Canada because there isn’t a proper advertising campaign in place. No word if there are plans to bring it Canada for a theatrical release in the future if the film does well in the US.
Aqua Teen Hunger Force airs on Teletoon in Canada and is one of the network’s 10 most popular shows.
