Gerard Butler: On Second Thought, Don’t Call Me Snake

October 31, 2007

Gerard Butler has opted out of the upcoming Escape from New York remake, Variety reports.

The 300 star has dusted off the old “creative differences” chestnut and left the picture, a remake of the 1981 John Carpenter cult classic.

Butler joins a growing list of people leaving the project. Directors Len Wiseman (Underworld, Underworld: Evolution) and Brett Ratner (Rush Hour, X-Men 3) have also jumped ship since originally being attached to the film at various times throughout its short, though troubled, production.

The film’s production company, New Line, is forging ahead, bringing in Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines director Jonathan Mostow to rewrite the script and possibly direct.
