George Clooney and Cate Blanchett may get Foxy

February 23, 2007

Actors George Clooney and Cate Blanchett may lend their voices to director Wes Anderson’s upcoming animated tale The Fantastic Mr. Fox.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Clooney is in negotiations with 20th Century Fox for the lead role, while Blanchett is still only in talks for the film.

The stop-motion film is arty Anderson's first animated picture and is an adaptation of British author Roald Dahl's classic children's story that follows the clever Mr. Fox, who must outwit three farmers who try to hurt him and his family. Clooney would voice Mr. Fox, while Blanchett would voice his wife.

Anderson will devote all his attention to Mr. Fox once he has completed his upcoming film, The Darjeeling Ltd. (starring Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman), which he is currently editing in New York.

The Fantastic Mr. Fox will be produced in London, with a similar stop-motion style to that of Tim Burton's Corpse Bride.
