No doubt based more on the its first weekend box office than its sagging second weekend receipts, Paramount Pictures is set to release a sequel to giant monster flick Cloverfield.
Director Matt Reeves is in talks with the studio to once again take the helm on the frenetic, motion sickness-inspiring film’s sequel, Variety reports. Writer Drew Goddard and producer/mastermind J.J. Abrams are also expected resume their duties on the planned project.
The sequel’s timing will depend on the speed of negotiations with Reeves, as the director is also looking to lead a production of The Invisible Woman for GreeneStreet Films. Reeves penned the screenplay which is described as a “Hitchcock-style thriller” about an ex-beauty queen that resorts to crime to save her family. No word on if she’s actually an invisible ex-beauty queen, or if that’s meant in more of a figurative sense.
Following a wave of viral marketing, the low budget Cloverfield has made $65.8 million US in just over two weeks at the box office.
