Katherine Heigl Disses Knocked Up, Grey’s Anatomy, Looks for Other Hands that Feed to Gnaw On

December 4, 2007

Going out of your way to badmouth the people and projects that helped make you successful is probably not the best career move — especially in the über-fickle and ultra-fake world of Hollywood. So, why is on-the-rise star Katherine Heigl doing it you ask? We don’t have a clue.

Heigl is quoted in January’s Vanity Fair criticizing summer comedy hit Knocked Up for being “a little sexist” and also hitting out at Grey’s Anatomy, the television show that helped make her a household name.

The actress said Knocked Up: “…paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as goofy, fun-loving guys… It was hard for me to love the movie.”

Riskier than pissing off Knocked Up writer/director Judd Apatow, is irking the producers and writers of Grey’s Anatomy, the high-rated show that boosted the star’s career. Heigl has said her character Izzie’s recent affair with married George (T.R. Knight) was “a ratings ploy” and that playing the character has her “trying to figure her out and keep her real.”

While we completely agree with Heigl’s assessment of the sexism in Knocked Up and the shameless ratings pandering of Grey’s Anatomy, we’re thinking it’s probably wise to keep those sorts of thoughts out of the press — at least until you’ve got a few more blockbusters under your belt. After all, Us Weekly reports that Heigl’s asking price has gone from $300,000 US per picture to a post-Knocked Up price of $6 million.

Gratitude — even if it’s in the form of remaining silent — never hurt anyone, Katherine.
