Dose.ca and the National Post have teamed up to help our visitors and readers discover great new music, essential to hear as they head back to school. We're rounded up songs from artists including Arcade Fire, LCD Soundsystem, Stars, Crystal Castles, and more.
Since the band's inception, Highland Park sextet Fol Chen has remained a mysterious entity -- its membership disguised by masks and aliases, its lyrics appearing as transmissions from a fictional world. Fol Chen's grand architects -- Samuel Bing and Julian Wass -- are masters of mood and composition, building their inimitable songs out of sound fragments sourced from live instrumentation and often siphoned through the sampler of an old Casio SK-1. For its second album, the band presents Part II: The New December, songs of malaise and miscommunication set to dark pop and glitch-riddled chamber funk.
