The quiet natural reserve known as Toronto Island was turned into a steaming pit of rock 'n' roll this weekend as the first ever Canadian Virgin Festival invaded the sprawling park, which is more used to squawking geese than squealing guitars. All weekend, The Flaming Lips, Gnarls Barkely, Muse, The Strokes, Wolfmother, The Raconteurs, Broken Social Scene, Alexisonfire, Eagles of Death Metal, The Dears, Buck 65 and many, many more filled two giant stages with back-to-back beats. Dose.ca was in the midst of all the action, armed with a digital camera and a ravenous appetite for mischief.
Video interviews:
Alexisonfire reveal scremo secrets
Muse conspire with us in their trailer
The Flaming Lips tell us why they want to get you off
Wolfmother reveal secret to entertaining bikers
We caught up with Lips eccentric frontman, Wayne Coyne, to talk vibrating panties; we conspired about the possibility that the royal family are actually lizard people with Muse; we invaded Alexisonfire’s trailer and chatted about this whole screamo explosion thing; we waxed poetic with The Dears; we learned what sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll are really about from Eagles of Death Metal; and we found out what it’s like to entertain 10,000 bikers as we chilled with Wolfmother.
Did we mention we also had a photographer in the front row to capture every windmill guitar stroke and every rock demi-god scissor-kick? Well, we did.
