Avril Reveals New Album Info; Good Chance She Won't 'Rap' About Stealing Your Boyfriend This Time

July 28, 2009

What's Avril Lavigne been up to lately? Well, we know she's been enjoying herself boozing, hocking kiddie clothes and sticking to her one-woman campaign of reviving the trucker hat. But hey, it looks like the Brat-princess of pop has been working on music, too. Neat?

Lavigne has an as-yet untitled album on target for a November 17 release, Entertainment Weekly reports. And of the 12 expected tracks -- thank your lucky Chuck Taylors -- it sounds as though the 24-year-old has finally grown out of her snotty "rap" phase (re: "Girlfriend").

"A lot of the songs are mainly the acoustic and my vocal," Lavigne told Billboard of the record. "It's a lot different from anything I've done before. It's not a pop-rock record. This is more about emotion and feeling."

Lavigne's reportedly been working from her home studio -- a fact made even more cozy considering her husband, Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley, is producing the bulk of the project

As for what's already making the tracklist, Lavigne says she has sole writing credit on several of the songs, many of which were penned in her teens before her life got all, ahem, "Complicated."

“I always had material, but some people that I worked with didn’t really care, because they wanted to write the stuff,” Lavigne explained to EW. “Some people were just like, ‘Ah, whatever. You’re a little girl. What do you know?’ I know how this works. It’s my fourth record. It’s not rocket science. I think people doubted me before, and I’m finally just like, ‘I’m doing this.’”

Among the newly written songs is a track called "Black Star" -- which would incidentally be the same name as Lavigne's branded perfume (which is set to launch in the fall, should you be looking to smell, presumably, like old hoodies and new money).

"It's the first song that I recorded for this record," she told Billboard -- of the jingle (we're not cynical) which was written especially for Lavigne's fragrance ad. "A lot of people like it. It's kind of like a lullaby."

The singer also hints that she's planning the requisite tour to go along with the new album launch, possibly in February. But no more backup dancers; Lavigne appears to be going for a girl-and-her-guitar approach, and says she wants to do a theatre tour. "I just wanna have silence around me, and have these acoustic songs and really deliver," she told EW.

Also, you should really watch her perfume ad. Celebrity fragrances are funny:
