Green Day Break out 21st Century Breakdown; Album Now Streaming in Full

May 11, 2009

Green Day have had their 21st Century Breakdown a few days earlier than expected. Though the band's latest -- an establishment-bashing power-pop opera packed with both Queen-style arena rockers and a few stage-musical-ready ballads that should bring tears of joy to Andrew Lloyd Webber's eyes -- isn't in stores until May 15, the album is streaming live on a variety of websites.

You can listen to all three movements and 17 tracks of the new Green Day album via We7.com, MTV.ca's The Leak or Rhapsody.com.

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong has recently said he thinks Breakdown has broken new ground for the veteran band.

"We just wanted to evolve naturally. There was no decision like, 'This is how we're gonna sound.' But for this it was like, 'Let's keep moving forward and see where the music takes us,'" he told MTV News. "I love a lot of, like, British invasion. I love, like, the Who and Cheap Trick and the Ramones. And it's like trying to take that power-pop or that pop-punk or whatever you want to call it, and stretching it into places that are further than we've ever gone."

As previously announced, the band is set to tour North America this summer in support of Breakdown, their eighth studio album. Concert venues for their 38-stop trek were recently revealed. See the full list of Canadian stops, below:
