The geese and ducks of Toronto island woke up with their ears ringing and a wicked hangover this morning as the Virgin Festival rolled through the usually quite park lands, bringing with it plenty of hot, sweaty rock 'n' roll, bangin' electro and the oddity that is Bjork.
On Saturday night, tens of thousands of fans invaded the island to take in the sounds of pop-hopper k-os, eccentric party-starter M.I.A., British dance-rockers Arctic Monkeys, moody brooders Interpol and walking/singing spectacle Bjork, among many more. Dose.ca was there armed with camcorders, cameras, microphones and a dangerous tendency for trouble. We chilled out backstage and watched k-os burn rubber on a speeding golf kart after taking MuchMusic VJ Matt Babel hostage. We caught up with Interpol to chat about how they've managed to impress even Metallica fans. We hung out on some picnic tables with Arctic Monkeys and discussed the British penchant for scandal. And, lucky for you, we got it all on film. Plus, our fearless photogs were in the front row to capture all the concert action.

On day 2, V-Fest turned it up to 11 with amazing performances by Montreal romantics Stars, electro rockers Metric, psychedelic experimentalists Blonde Redhead, new-wave revivalists The Killers and alternative originators the Smashing Pumpkins. Once again, we were sulking around backstage, spying on the Killers as they got some sun in front of their trailer. We caught up with Metric during a band badminton tournament to talk about their forthcoming album. We chatted with Stars about love, war, politics and their new album, In Our Bedroom After the War. Crowned King dropped by to share their excitement over winning a slot on the Virgin bill, and Blonde Redhead waxed philosophical about their unique brand of trip-out rock. And, of course, the Smashing Pumpkins returned to a Canadian stage for the first time in 10 years. It was dope.
