The Cure, Talking Heads, Wilco, Scarlett Johansson: what do these four things have in common besides being stuff your college boyfriend was obsessed with?
All four appear on the soundtrack to an upcoming rom-com based on a book based on a Sex and the City episode, He's Just Not That Into You.
Last we heard of Scarlett Johansson's musical aspirations, the actress was dropping hints about possibly covering Leonard Cohen or recording an album of original material. The latest entry to her (hopefully limited) discography, however, is neither. That little minx!
Following last summer's muddled Tom Waits tribute, Anywhere I Lay My Head, Johansson does her darndest to foul up the legacy of yet another great songwriter, Jeff Buckley. She turns in a bland, piano-accompanied cover of the late musician's "Last Goodbye."
If you feel like being sad today, you can listen to it here. Our first impression: if this were American Idol, Simon would most definitely say it's got a "cabaret" feel. And that's not a good thing. Somebody, please, cue a farewell montage.
