We see them everywhere: the perfectly coifed, well-dressed women who look like they walked right out of a Vogue. And if you ever talk to these women, they always insist that it’s not so difficult to look that good every day – it just means getting up early every day. And that means it’s practically unattainable for the lazy girl, who will take any excuse to stay in bed for a few more minutes.

But just because we’re lazy doesn’t mean we have to look like a pile of unwashed laundry. We may not emulate the style of a Gossip Girl character, but there are still a few tricks that will help the lazy girl look acceptable, even after she slept in for an extra hour and a half.

Shower the night before

Unless you really need to watch that rerun of Seinfeld, showering the night before is key to looking your (relative) best while still getting some rest. If you skip the late-night TV and shower instead, you’ll still get to bed at the same time and catch some more sleep. Time saved: 30 minutes

Use a hair straightener

Even if you blow-dry your hair the night before, a good night’s sleep can still make your ‘do look a bit wonky when you wake up. A flat iron will prevent most of this – just straighten your hair after your shower and it will still look pretty good in the morning. Time saved: 20 minutes

Embrace the ponytail

If you can’t stand straightening your hair (or if it’s just not built for that), then it’s time to get used to wearing a ponytail. No, it’s not ideal, but if you’d rather keep dreaming about Robert Pattinson for a little while longer, then you’ll have to tie your hair up in morning. And celebs have proven that ponytails don’t have to look blah – just be creative. Time saved: 10 minutes

Wear glasses

This only applies to the more visually-challenged of lazy girls, but putting in contact lenses every morning takes about five minutes that could be spent sleeping – even more, if you have bad aim. Find some funky frames and just put them on as soon as you wake up – you can see, and you didn’t even have to stick your finger in your eye. Time saved: 5 minutes

Long pants

This is pretty much a given in the winter months, but a good collection of long pants are essential to the lazy girl who wants to get out of the shower to watch the latest episode of Glee. Why? Because if you wear long pants, you don’t have to shave your legs. Who’s going to know? Nobody but you, and you won’t care, because you’ll be well-rested. Time saved: 15 minutes
