The coroner hired by Anna Nicole Smith to perform a second autopsy on her son has failed to determine the cause of his death, but has ruled out foul play and the previously-reported heart attack.
Cyril Wecht, 75, a respected Pittsburgh-based forensic pathologist, has ruled out heart disease, cancer, systemic infection or a pulmonary embolism, reports People magazine.
"I find nothing to suggest to me any kind of foul play," Wecht said in a statement following the autopsy. "I think that we have a tragic death of a young man and, ultimately, the cause is going to be determined."
He asked for more time to conduct further tests, which could take weeks to complete. Bahamian pathologists performed an initial autopsy last Tuesday and ordered further tests, including a toxicology report.
Daniel Smith, 20, was found dead in Anna Nicole Smith's hospital room on Sept. 10. He was visiting his mother in a hospital in Nassau, Bahamas, where she had just given birth to a baby girl.
