Director Jason Reitman is gearing up for his feature film debut, Thank You For Smoking, in limited release now and wide release April 7. Today, he’s Just Another Fan.
Do you follow any sports?
Yeah, hockey.
Any favourites to win the Stanley Cup?
Canucks. My wife (actress Michele Lee), who is from Vancouver brought me back to Canada: she taught me the national anthem, she taught me how to follow hockey, she taught me to play hockey and she taught me through the Canucks.
What position do you play?
Left wing.
Any good?
No, I suck.
Where do you play?
In Los Angeles. I play for two teams, actually.
What do you like most about playing hockey?
It’s a really visceral sport, you know, you’re out in the cold, you’re wearing all kinds of equipment and you get aggressive — and I’m not an aggressive guy in any sense of the word — but I somehow tap into something while I’m playing. It’s a completely unique playing environment. Like, I’m talking to a Canadian, what else can I say about hockey?!? Why did I say I knew about hockey? There’s nothing I can say that’s inventive or new aside from “I like to play.”
