The new Melrose Place doesn't premiere until tonight in Canada, but its Tuesday night debut in the U.S. was less than stellar. Entertainment Weekly reports that despite the major buzz surrounding the primetime soap – especially since it's a reboot of a beloved '90s series – Melrose 2.0 only averaged 2.3 million viewers. Looks like producers should have tried a bit harder to bring Heather Locklear back.
It wasn't entirely bad news for Melrose, though: it placed second in the ratings for the young adult audience, and the show was the top trending topic on Twitter last night for about an hour. So... hurray?
But Melrose's lackluster premiere is still a little embarrassing for the CW network, especially since the Season 2 premiere of 90210 did better, earning 2.6 million viewers. When people would rather watch Shenae Grimes than watch your show, you know you're in trouble.
Melrose Place premieres tonight at 10 p.m. ET on Global.
