Joss Whedon Gets Gleeful

October 20, 2009

There is so much awesomeness in this news that we almost can't handle it: according to Entertainment Weekly, musical and comedy genius Joss Whedon has agreed to direct a future episode of Glee. Admit it: you just peed a little.

Apparently, the scribe behind the "Once More, With Feeling" musical episode of Buffy and the Emmy-winning Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog has been a fan of Glee since the pilot first aired in the spring, and was delighted to sign on when show creator Ryan Murphy asked him to direct an episode.

"Joss directed one of the great musical episodes in the history of television on Buffy," Murphy told EW. "This is a great, if unexpected, fit. I'm thrilled he'll be loaning us his fantastic groundbreaking talent."

Whedon will reportedly helm one of the final nine episodes of Glee's season – and, for all those Dollhouse fans out there, there's no need to worry, because he probably won't go over to Glee until his own show is done producing its current 13-episode order.

The Buffy creator confirmed his participation on his blog yesterday, and dispelled rumours that he'll kill off some characters (as is his wont).

"Unless something very odd happens in the next few months, I will have the privilege of shooting an episode of Glee," Whedon wrote. "Whom will I kill? When will that go away? Is death really the only thing I'm known for? I'd hope not. You know how many people in the world actually die? ALL OF THEM. You know how many I've killed? Statistically, somewhat fewer. Can't we focus on another element of my work? Having said that, probably Principal Figgins. (No! I kid! God.)"

What do you think of Whedon's new Glee gig? Do you hope he'll write some original songs for the episode? Will he go back on his word and kill off Principal Figgins after all? Post your thoughts in the comments below.
