Gossip Girl Turns to Anne Hathaway for Story Ideas

February 5, 2009

Gossip Girl is getting ready to pull a Law & Order by developing a story ripped from the headlines! (Chung chung!) Entertainment Weekly reports that writers for the hit teen soap are busy creating a storyline for season's end that shares some qualities with Anne Hathaway's highly publicized breakup with Raffaello Follieri. (Follieri, as you may remember, was convicted in October 2008 on 14 counts of money laundering, wire fraud and conspiracy. Good thing you dumped him before the Oscar nominations were announced, eh, Anne?)

Inside sources at Gossip Girl told EW that, like Hathaway, Serena van der Woodsen will fall for "a handsome, European socialite" – and, since this is Gossip Girl and nobody can ever just be happy, he's probably eeevil. The story will likely be a little more dangeresque than Hathaway's real-life romantic problems, in that Serena's relationship will actually threaten her safety.

Executive producer Stephanie Savage wouldn't confirm or deny the reports, though she did say that the handsome new suitor is "very well-travelled, part of the global elite. He's not a brooding artist like Dan or Aaron Rose. He's definitely a grown-up, and that's something Serena is very attracted to."

Hey, anything that moves Serena away from the judgmental, self-righteous, pretentious artsy boys with chin fuzz is OK with us. What's a little fraud and embezzlement compared to that?
