It looks like skipping class to deal with teen drama is finally catching up with Dustin Milligan, as the 90210 star may be leaving West Beverly High. Entertainment Weekly reports that the 23-year-old Yellowknife native, who spent the last season playing Annie's too-good-for-her boyfriend Ethan, won't return for 90210's second season – or, if he does, only on a part-time basis.
"Everyone loves Dustin," an insider told EW. Well, duh – have you seen his dimples?
Added the spy: "There was just a feeling that the character had run its course."
While Milligan may return briefly to wrap up his storyline, the actor's ousting is just one of many signs that the 90210 producers are hoping to revamp its bland image. The show recently added Matt Lanter to play bad boy Liam, and new showrunner Rebecca Rand Kirshner Sinclair is looking to make 90210's second season more consistently exciting than the first.
"The show tried to be a lot of things to a lot of people in its first season," Sinclair said last month. "If Gossip Girl is about youth in New York, I want to [make 90210] about youth in L.A. and Beverly Hills."
We wonder: are TV writers aware that there are millions of teenagers living low- to middle-class lives in places other than L.A. and New York City? Judging by the CW roster of shows, as soon as a person enters high school, they magically inherit millions of dollars and move to one of the coasts.
