Following reports in March that One Tree Hill producers were dumping Chad Michael Murray from their youthful, good-looking cast, Entertainment Weekly finally confirmed yesterday that the squinty-eyed hunkster is indeed leaving the CW drama after this season – and he's taking Hilarie Burton with him.

Murray and Burton, whose characters Lucas and Peyton just got married on the latest episode of One Tree Hill, have been embroiled in tense salary negotiations with producers for the last several weeks. With the CW ordering all their shows to cut costs, producers ultimately failed to reach a deal, meaning that Lucas and Peyton's last appearance will be on the season finale next week. They will be replaced by two new characters next season and, in addition, Austin Nichols (Julian) is being promoted to series regular.

Although Murray had plenty to say when reports first surfaced, the actor is remaining quiet now that his exit is official.

"Chad is no longer on the show and has no comment regarding the new season," his rep told EW.

(New rumours have surfaced that Brian Austin Green may be stepping into the lead role.)
