No, Craig Ferguson's job isn't in jeopardy. It was a literal lights out for the Late Late Show host last night, as high-powered winds in Los Angeles caused the lights to go out in the studio during taping.
Everything went black during the last few moments of the Scotsman's interview with Alicia Silverstone – but, since the cameras and sound were still working, Ferguson rolled with it.
"Oh!" Ferguson cried out. "Ooh, it's getting close to Halloween. This is awesome. We've gone to radio, everybody!"
The host soon cut to commercial and by the time Salman Rushdie arrived for his segment, the lights were back on – but not for long. The studio once again went dark at the end of the taping, leaving Ferguson to finish out the show with flashlights being shone in his face.
"It's kind of like one of these movies that makes a billion, kazillion dollars now," he quipped, doing his best Blair Witch/Paranormal Activity impression. "You know what I think is worrying? Let's be honest: the lighting has slightly improved."
Last night's gusty winds cut power to thousands of Southern California residents last night; as many as 40,000 homes were still without power this morning.
