Just one day after TMZ revealed that Britney Spears would appear on How I Met Your Mother, TVGuide.com reports that Alicia Silverstone has pulled out of her multi-episode guest appearance on the CBS sitcom so as not to be overshadowed by the crazy pop star.

See? Spears ruins everything.

Silverstone was set to play a dermatologist who would begin dating Mother main character Ted (Josh Radnor), with Spears acting as the dermatologist's assistant. Scrubs star Sarah Chalke has stepped in to fill Silverstone's role, but Chalke's busy schedule means that the character will now only appear on one episode. This turn of events squashes any theories that the dermatologist would end up being the woman Ted eventually marries.

However, a Mother insider told TVGuide.com's Michael Ausiello that show creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas are still searching for a way to put Silverstone on the show.

"[Bays and Thomas] love Alicia," said Ausiello's source. "They intend to create another character for her."

In other words, How I Met Your Mother and Alicia Silverstone are a Miss Match made in heaven. Ba dum bum!
