The economy must really be hitting the music industry hard as beautiful, famous singers are being forced to turn to CBS procedural dramas to make ends meet. Not long after teen country singer Taylor Swift's CSI appearance, Entertainment Weekly reports that Katharine McPhee has signed on for an episode of CSI: New York, scheduled to air sometime in April.

The former American Idol runner-up will really be stretching her acting muscle this time, playing a singer. Who sings. (Yeah, like anyone's going to believe that.)

McPhee, 24, has been splitting her time between singing and her burgeoning acting career. She was previously seen as a pregnant sorority sister in The House Bunny and, once her CSI: NY gig is up, she’ll begin work on Wedlock, a romcom with Brothers & Sisters star Dave Annable.
