Spike TV is putting a spin on armchair detective work with its new reality series, Murder.
Co-produced by Bunim-Murray (The Real World, The Simple Life), the hour-long series will give amateur detectives the chance to solve real-life crimes, reports the Hollywood Reporter.
Each week, two groups of civilians will be placed in an exact replica of a crime scene pulled from the files of an existing homicide case. The teams will assess the scene, collect evidence, receive a list of suspects and meet with the coroner to go over the original autopsy report.
With the evidence in tow, the contestants are given 48 hours to investigate the case and correctly identify the killer. The weekly winners will have a donation made in their names to a selected victim’s charity.
“For the viewer, Murder fuses the authenticity of a real-life crime scene with the suspense of trying to solve the murder before the contestants on the show,” said Jon Murray of Bunim-Murray. “We are excited to be working with Spike TV on such a cutting-edge series and hope the audience will take away a sense of how strategic and meticulous crime detectives must be on a daily basis.”
Spike TV has given the show a 10-episode order.
