Q&A with Project Runway Canada's Eliminated Designer

February 18, 2009

After Project Runway Canada's stressful team challenge last week, in which the designers were paired up to create two cohesive looks, the competition took it to the next level: this time, in teams of three, the designers had to create an haute couture collection inspired by the works of an iconic designer. The Yves St. Laurent team fell to the bottom of the pack, as team leader Kim Cathers was chastised for straying from haute couture while Brandon Dwyer was taken to task for admitting he knew nothing of St. Laurent. Ultimately, Dwyer's unimpressive outfit and his ignorance of one of fashion's most influential icons was enough to get the 22-year-old sent home.

Why do you think the judges didn't like your outfit this week?
Pretty sure the reason they disliked my garment was due to the fact that is did not look YSL inspired, which is a complete and valid reason because I was not really aware of what YSL's style is.

Would you have done anything differently?

If I could turn back time, I would have done more research on designers before going onto the show.

Do you think you deserved to be sent home this week? If not, who should have?

There were definitely weaker garments then mine on the runway (execution wise), but I do believe I did deserve to go home because I was not able to fulfill the challenge of being inspired by that certain designer.

What was your favorite design (yours or someone else's) you saw on the show this season?
I really enjoyed Jess's gown for the L'Oreal Paris Challange, as well as Baylor’s for the same challenge (I don't believe he got enough credit for how much detail he put into that garment; it was hard to see on the runway).

In your opinion, which remaining contestant has what it takes to be the winner this season?
There are a few great contenders to hold the title of Project Runway Canada Season 2 winner, but I'm crossing my fingers for Jessica Biffi. She is one talented girl and I can't wait to see what she brings to the table in the weeks to come.

What are you taking away from your experience on Project Runway Canada?
I definitely learned tons from this experience. One main thing that I will be taking home with me is time management skills - that's one thing I have never been very good at.

What's next for you in the world of fashion?

I am launching my label, Brandon R. Dwyer, with my Fall/Winter 09/10 collection this March. To keep updated with all I am doing please check out my website. Thank you to everybody who made this experience a great one.

Project Runway Canada airs Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on Global.
