VH1 Cancels 'Megan Wants A Millionaire' After Murder Suspect Found Dead in Vancouver

August 24, 2009

Accused murderer Ryan Jenkins was found dead in a Vancouver hotel over the weekend in an apparent suicide, reports the Vancouver Sun. Jenkins had reportedly fled from the US into his native Canada after his wife, Jasmine Fiore, was found dead and stuffed into a suitcase. Jenkins was found by the hotel manager, who was checking on the room Jenkins rented a few days earlier.

The tragic incident has thrown American TV network VH1 for a loop, as Jenkins was a prominent contestant on their dating reality show, Megan Wants a Millionaire. Certain reports claim Jenkins made it to the final three but did not win; following filming of the show Jenkins went to Las Vegas, met Fiore and married her soon after. In light of the events, VH1 has already cancelled Megan Wants a Millionaire, but according to The Hollywood Reporter, network execs are still deciding whether or not to shelve I Love Money 3, on which Jenkins was also a contestant.

Jenkins was sentenced to 15 months of probation in 2007 after an assault charge in Calgary, but 51 Minds, the production company behind Megan Wants a Millionaire and the I Love Money series, insists their background check on the 32-year-old investment banker didn't discover that aspect of his past.

Lisa Lepore, Fiore's mother, told the Associated Press that her daughter and Jenkins had frequent, heated arguments because of Jenkins' jealousy of his wife's ex-boyfriends, and when he returned after filming I Love Money 3, he had trouble winning her back.

Prosecutors on the case said Jenkins and Fiore checked into a San Diego hotel on Aug. 13; Jenkins checked out the next morning and disappeared. On Aug. 15, Fiore's body was found in a suitcase inside of a dumpster in Buena Park, Calif.
