Q&A with Canada's Next Top Model reject Tiffany

May 27, 2009

Even though rejection is the nature of the show, being the first girl eliminated from Canada's Next Top Model is beyond frustrating. After beating out thousands of other girls for a spot on the show, 23-year-old Tiffany still found herself at a disadvantage as both the oldest and the shortest girl in the competition. At the judging panel, the native Torontonian didn't help her case, having turned out an unimpressive photo and disappointing the judges with her shyness. After falling to the bottom two with Jill, a perky blonde, Tiffany was ultimately eliminated from the competition.

How did it feel to watch yourself get eliminated first on last night's episode?
Oh, my God. It was bittersweet. You obviously don't want to be the first one to be kicked off; however, that's the title that I currently have. It was nerve-wracking. It was kind of happy for the episode to come can go.

The show portrayed you as very shy and unsure of yourself. Was that a fair portrayal?
What I was trying to tell the judges was that I've always been shy but I'd broken out of my shell, but that obviously didn't come across to the judges. I felt that I was confident enough and I didn't want to be the type of person that was involved in any type of drama. I was very mellow and I wanted to take the criticism for what it was and work with it for the rest of the competition, so I feel that I was misunderstood in that sense.

Do you think you deserved to be sent home?
No, definitely not. That's with all honesty; I don't feel it was my time to go home. The judges felt otherwise, but I personally felt that I would have rocked it in the rest of the season, but that's just how it worked out.

Who do you think should have left instead?
I have no problem with her at all, but it is a competition and she is my competitor, so I do feel that Jill should have been the first one to go home.

Do you think she should go next?
Oh, yeah. I just personally feel – I'm not trying to slander anybody or break down anybody's confidence, but I just feel that she didn't feel as confident as me and the other girls did. Maybe that was a misimpression that I got from her; however, that's what I felt when I saw her there.

Why do you think the judges didn't get that impression?
I think a lot of things worked against me. I mean, yeah, I was one of the oldest and I was a mom, but I didn't feel like I was being reserved. I was just ready for the criticism. I was ready to take it in and work with it.

What happens during filming that doesn't make it to air?
Drama makes for good TV and there was a little separation from the three girls who got to do the extra photo shoot with Nigel [Barker]. However, there wasn't any type of drama. We all sat down and said to each other, "If there's any kind of miscommunication or misunderstanding or quarreling or any such measure, we will discuss it." People didn't get to see that part, but all of us got along really well. We all were very thankful and appreciative for even getting to be in a competition of this measure, so it wasn't anything bad. We were ready to take on the challenges and give it our best.

As a new mom, do you still want to keep going in the modeling industry? How will you balance the two?
I don't think being a mom should hinder anyone's dream of wanting to pursue anything they want to truly pursue. It's not going to paralyze me. I definitely want to pursue modeling and I love being a mom, so it's not one or the other. I will do both. I can be Superwoman if I want to be. It's my world and I can claim it the way I want it. That's just how I see it; I just have a positive outlook on everything and whatever will be, will be.

Who do you think will be Canada's Next Top Model?
If I had to pick anyone to win the entire show – I mean, all of the girls are beautiful, don't get me wrong, and they all have a strong presence – I feel that Meaghan will take the competition completely in her hand. She just has a natural presence, a natural beauty to her. And without even trying! She just looks like she was born to be a model.

What's next for you?
Right now, I'm holding tight and [staying] open-minded to any and all opportunities. I do hope that someone out there sees that this girl has potential and maybe I can get signed with an agency. I'd love to. But other than that, I'm just playing it by ear.

Canada's Next Top Model airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.
