Friday Night Lights is Saved! Woo Hoo!

March 7, 2008

Start practicing your touchdown dance: Friday Night Lights will be back for a third season, reports Nikki Finke of Deadline Hollywood Daily. Clear eyes, full hearts, can't lose!

Despite a fervent fan base and buttloads of critical acclaim, the football drama has been close to cancellation for its entire run, averaging only 6.1 million viewers in its first season and 6.2 million in its second. However, even with low ratings, Friday Night Lights performed fairly well in the 18-to-34 demographic, prompting NBC to look for a cable network to share the cost of producing the show. The peacock network finally found a worthy partner in DirecTV.

Though rumour is it's a sure thing, executive producer Jason Katims tells E! News: "We remain optimistic about the future of the series and appreciate the overwhelming fan support, but it is too premature to comment on the status of any negotiations."

This news has greatly improved our week, which is no easy feat, especially considering that Dina Lohan announced her train wreck of a reality show on Tuesday.
