According to Jim Returning for Season 8. No, Seriously

June 20, 2008

You may want to keep an eye out for War, Pestilence and Death because somehow, against all odds and logic, According to Jim has avoided cancellation. Again. For the seventh time.

Is this was madness feels like?

Entertainment Weekly reports that even though According to Jim averaged a mere 5.3 million US viewers this past season, the perpetually unfunny Jim Belushi sitcom does surprisingly well in syndication, making enough money for ABC that ordering an eighth season is financially wise. The alphabet network has even signed Penny Marshall to direct a few episodes; we have to assume they just drove a dump truck full of money to her door. She's not made of stone, people.

For his part, Belushi shows no sign of ditching his meal ticket. Even when the 100-day writers strike began last November and most other television shows halted production, the 54-year-old actor chose to continue filming his pathetic excuse for a comedy, using scripts that had been written pre-strike. Or maybe they just winged every episode. Either way, the finished product was just as wearisome as usual.
